Why won't my cat stop meowing after moving?

I really need some advice! I just moved into a new house with my boyfriend and his dog about a week ago. My cat came over a couple of days ago. At first, she was scared, but now she is eating, drinking, using the litter box, and being affectionate. The problem is, she keeps meowing between 3 and 7 in the morning. They met before and get along well, so I don’t think it’s that. Before this, she lived with my dad and another male cat, and I’m worried she misses him. Will she get over this, or will she keep meowing until she’s back with him? I just want to help her adjust. I’m thinking about buying an anti-anxiety or melatonin supplement today. Any suggestions or advice would be appreciated!

I’m also recommending a feliway diffuser. How long did she live with the male cat? Did you check the signs of cats being bonded before moving her? If they’re bonded, it might be best to return her unless you can bring the male cat to live with you. Separating bonded cats can be hard. I wouldn’t give her melatonin without talking to your vet first.

They have a plug-in pheromone that helps cats. It made a big difference for my cat and helped her stop getting bladder infections. Everyone is calmer now. I think it’s called Feliway or something similar. You can find it at Meijers, Walmart, pet stores, Amazon, and more. Good luck with your kitty!

Try calling her name to reassure her when she starts crying at night. I have two older cats, and one does the same until I call her name. It helps her find her way back to me.

Your cat is still getting used to the new place. Get a pheromone diffuser; it should help her adjust.

Don’t use harmful chemicals on your cat. That won’t solve the problem; it just covers the symptoms. Just give her time to adjust to the new place. Is there a lot of clutter? Fix that to help her feel at home. Talk to her when she cries and cuddle her. If she keeps crying after some time, maybe a vet visit is needed to rule out any health issues. Sometimes cats cry at night when their vision starts to go. She might want to sleep with you, but the new setup with your partner isn’t letting her.

My boyfriend and I moved about four months ago with two cats and a dog. It took about a month to a month and a half for my youngest cat to stop making noise from 3 to 5 am. He still complains a bit in the early morning, but not as much as before. It will get better with time; he just has some stories to tell right now.

Is she spayed? If not, she could be in heat. Or she may just be missing her cat buddy. Maybe try to get something that has your dad’s cat’s scent on it; it might comfort her.

She is spayed, but I think she just misses the male cat. I’ll try to get something with his scent; thank you!

Thanks to everyone for your advice! I’m sure she will adjust with time. It makes me sad to see her confused, and I want to help. My boyfriend and I have a big bed, so she can cuddle with us, and she did for most of the night! But as soon as it hit 3 am, she started wandering and crying. If things don’t improve, I might have to consider returning her or bringing the other cat since they might be bonded.

@Wilder
I think your cat might miss her friend and wants to hang out with him again. Here are some articles about bonded pairs:
