My 2-year-old girl cat has been acting really scared since my 12-year-old boy cat came home from dental surgery yesterday (he had six teeth removed). He was at the vet most of the day, and when he got back, he was very affectionate and happy to be home. My younger cat started sniffing him, but then suddenly seemed terrified of him.
I know cats can sometimes react to unfamiliar scents on another cat after a vet visit, but she’s never been this anxious when he’s come home from shorter vet visits, like check-ups or blood work. I’m wondering if it could be because he smells different after the surgery, or if it’s that he’s acting a bit more affectionate than usual. Has anyone else experienced this, and do you think it’s the behavior change or the smells that could be causing this reaction?
