Why do people in the cat forum get so mad when you tell them cats should not be outdoors unsupervised?

I believe cats should not be outdoors unsupervised because they can get injured in many ways and also they kill native animals. When I say stuff like this I get downvoted to hell and im told its not neglect.

Because you’re coming at someone’s choices and pointing out the negative aspects of said choices. So that someone is going to dig in and fight back.

It’s the same reason I get bitched at in my local social media groups when I beg people to leash their dogs in spaces where the law says they should be leashed. No one is going to say “OMG, you’re right, I should leash my dog!” they’re going to explain to me how I am wrong and they are right. Fighting sunk cost fallacy is a losing game.

@Smith
One day their unleashed mutt will come upon a responsible person with a reactive dog on a leash and their unleashed mutt will get mauled, and they’ll blame the leashed dog. :expressionless:

That day has nearly happened for me a few times. I am that responsible person with a reactive dog on a leash.

@Smith
So am I. Albeit she is 8 pounds. But she is fiesty asf. And she will bite a chunk out of your dog’s nose if you ignore my pleas of “my dog isn’t friendly, my dog will bite, GET BACK!!” People will ignore me completely, thinking my dog is so small and cute. One lady with a golden retriever ignored me, and sure enough, her dog’s nose was dripping blood after mine nipped at it. She got pissed off and demanded my info, but she never followed up.

Because people are stupid and think they know better. Cats are not immune to being hurt by the natural world, and people don’t wanna hear that.

Nature isn’t better. When you see a wolf eating the intestines of a still-alive deer, come talk to me about how “nature is better” for your pet. :roll_eyes:

This is the unfortunate truth. I love my cats with all my heart, but cats are responsible for massive amounts of wildlife damage around the world. It’s hard to believe, but they are some of the most efficient predators out there.

Also, the risk of bringing home fleas is too much. Have you ever tried to get a collar on a cat or try to give them a flea bath? I still have scars from trying both! Haha.

No idea. As a cat person who is on those subs, I don’t get it. No pet cat should be outside alone. On top of my hot takes, no pet should be intact—there is zero reason to not have your pet spayed or neutered once of a certain weight/age for their breed/size.

I got bitched at while at the park because I refused to open the gate until the dog owners had moved their dogs away from the entrance. Like, why would you think it’s appropriate for your dogs to swarm the gate?

That mindset of “I can never be wrong” really needs to stop.
