Hi guys,
My sister and her family are currently in Europe, so I’ve been cat-sitting for them. Before she left, her cat had lost a bit of weight, but nothing alarming, she was still in a healthy range. However, a few days into my cat-sitting, the cat’s condition seemed to deteriorate overnight. She started vomiting, having diarrhea, and losing weight rapidly.
I rushed her to the emergency vet, who did an ultrasound and discovered a large growth in her abdomen. It’s located near the pancreas but could be lymphatic or intestinal, with no way to confirm without further treatment. The vet mentioned that it looked cancerous. Unfortunately, the growth is too large for surgery, and chemotherapy would be the only option, which might only give her a few more months. Given her condition and the cost of treatment, my sister can’t afford chemo, and I’m concerned she wouldn’t handle it well.
The vet gave us probiotics, an appetite stimulant, and anti-nausea medication. Within a day and a half, she seemed to be back to her usual self eating, drinking, and full of energy. She’s very affectionate, playful, and mischievous, just like before. The problem is that she’s still losing weight rapidly. Although she’s eating normally and doesn’t need the appetite stimulant, she continues to have diarrhea but no vomiting.
My sister won’t be back for another three days, and we’re struggling with the decision of when the right time might be. The cat doesn’t seem to be in visible pain, and the tumor isn’t tender to the touch. I’ve been keeping my sister updated, and she doesn’t want her cat to suffer.
Does anyone have experience with a similar situation or any insight on how to proceed?
Thanks in advance for your help.
