What's a fair rate to pay for cat sitting over the weekend?

Hi everyone! I’m heading out for a few days and leaving my two cats at home. I live in California and have asked the friendly maintenance man at my apartment complex if he could feed them and clean the litter box twice—once on Friday and again on Monday. He’s only doing a couple of quick tasks that shouldn’t take long. I offered to pay him, but I didn’t set a price. What would be a fair rate to pay him for these two quick visits? Thanks for any advice!

$50 minimum sounds fair. He’s taking care of your pets, and he might become a reliable pet sitter for future trips too.

I’m in California too, and typical cat-sitting rates are about $20 per visit. For two visits, I’d suggest around $50.

I’d pay around $40-$50. Taking care of litter boxes isn’t fun, and it’s worth it for peace of mind.

How long will they be alone? When I’m away, I usually have someone come twice a day. If you’re able to check in with him during your trip, that could help as well.

You might also consider an automatic feeder if it’s a recurring need. They’re available for around $50.
