Hey, I made this post as I need somewhere to vent, I am young, don’t have a car and I’m unable to take my dog to the vet myself, meaning I need to wait till my mom gets home.
If this is against the rules or anything, please let me know and I will take it down right away.
We just found out someone in our neighborhood has been throwing poison into people’s backyards to kill their cats and dogs, We fear the poison has gotten into our yard and our dog has somehow come in contact with it. We think this because when I went outside to check on our dog, he was having a seizure and when it finally stopped, he started foaming yellow stuff from his mouth. I immediately brought him inside and put him in his cage to rest since I’m unable to do anything else at the moment, We have other dogs so we’ve also been keeping them inside and separated from him. I found out about someone putting poison into people’s yards after talking with a neighbor (apparently someone else’s dog got poison too, luckily they survived; However, multiple cats have been killed) and I pray to God that’s not what’s happening right now. I fear I’m going to lose my dog due to someone evilness. Is there anything I can do until my mom comes home to take him to the vet?
I am sorry about your dog. Try to keep him calm and comfortable until your mother can take him to the veterinarian. If possible, contact local authorities to report the poisoning. I hope your dog recovers soon and that the culpable party is held accountable.
Thanks a lot. He has a blanket and some cushions in his cage, so I’m hoping that keeps him comfortable. I was thinking of putting some food and water in there, but I’m not sure whether it will make things worse. Thank you for your kind words, though.
If you can find anything in your yard or if another neighbor found out what poison was being used you can also call poison control. I’m so sorry I hope your pup makes it.
I agree with you, please make sure to thoroughly search your yard carefully from now on, especially before they leave.
Is there a way to get some activated charcoal into him? If he was poisoned, activated charcoal will give you enough time to get him to the clinic. The dosage is 1.5 g per pound. When I needed to use it (just once), I combined it with water and squirted it into my dog’s mouth using a syringe, although a turkey baster might suffice.
I am so sorry to hear this, and I hope your dog will be okay. It might help to ask your neighbor if their vet identified the poison. Sharing that with your vet could be crucial.
Do you have any activated charcoal to give your dog?
If your parents can’t get home right away, can a family member, friend, or even your neighbor help take your dog to the vet? If you’re old enough, could you hire an Uber?
Good luck, @OliverWhisker. Also, you and your neighbors should report this to the police.
I was thinking of questioning the neighbors as well. The faster the dog gets to the vet, the better his chances of survival. I would definitely report this to the police.
I am having trouble responding to every message. My mother will be home soon; right now, he isn’t foaming at the mouth, but I am keeping an eye on him. If necessary, my grandmother might be able to take us to the vet.
If it is the case of poisoning, please don’t wait for too long call 911 for help. Look for animal rescue organizations to assist you and your pup. My thoughts are with you.
Get your dog to the vet ASAP but until then:
ASPCA Animal Poison Control Center Phone Number: (888) 426-443
Google “After-hours vet near me.” You will have a place to take the dog if your regular vet is closed. Call the vet’s office and tell them what is going on, maybe they can give you advice.
