Vet wants me to come back every day for my kitten after neutering... is this normal?

I just got my 7-month-old female kitten neutered, and the vet wants me to bring her back every day for 4 to 5 days. That seems kinda excessive compared to my last cat, who only needed one check-up after a week. Plus, she’s not even wearing an elizabethan collar, just a bandage on her leg from sedation. She’s barely moving, vomited, and doesn’t want to eat or drink. I’m a bit worried since this feels so different from my previous experience. Any advice would be super helpful!

Honestly, ChatGPT doesn’t know anything about cat medical care. If you think your vet is being dishonest, I’d definitely recommend getting a second opinion.

Yeah, I see your point. I’ll ask for a second opinion.

My vet had me bring my kitten in 3-4 days post-surgery to check on healing. It’s standard where I am, but I’d be more worried about the vomiting and her not moving much. My kitten perked up a few hours after waking from anesthesia.

@Cleo
Thanks for sharing your experience. She just vomited again, and I called the vet. They say it’s normal since she just came out of surgery. I have another vet ready to check her if she doesn’t improve soon.

That doesn’t sound normal at all. You should definitely ask your vet why they want daily visits and consider a second opinion if she doesn’t start drinking soon.

Sounds like the best plan. Everyone seems to think there’s something off here.

100% not normal. A typical spay means she might be a bit woozy for a few hours, but being lethargic, vomiting, and not wanting food or water is concerning. Daily re-checks are also unusual; usually, it’s one follow-up after a week or two. Get her to another vet ASAP.

@Arden
Thanks, I’ve called another vet and will take her if she doesn’t perk up soon.
