Urgent: Stores closed, feral cat needs food

I got home late from work, and my roommate, who’s been feeding this feral cat, had to work a double shift. The cat food is completely out, and the nearest stores don’t open until 8 AM. The poor cat usually stays distant but has been following me around, meowing, and waiting by his empty food bowl. The last time he was fed was around 7 AM. I found a ham steak in the fridge—should I give him that, or is it better to wait three more hours until I can get proper cat food? I feel really bad either way. :disappointed_relieved:

If he’s feral, he’s probably eaten worse than a ham steak before. Just make sure to get him real food as soon as possible.

Ham should be fine for now, but if you have any eggs, you could try that too.

Scrambled eggs work great in a pinch! Cats seem to love them.

Ham is really salty. Do you have a couple of eggs you could cook up for him instead?

Do you have any canned tuna or salmon? That’ll work in a pinch.

Ferals have definitely eaten worse, but ham can be a bit salty. If you can scramble up some plain eggs, that might be better.

Steak, eggs, or tuna should be fine until you can get proper cat food.
