I have an orange girl who’s a little over 3 years old. She’s super playful and sweet, but lately she’s been obsessed with trying to escape outside. I’m thinking maybe getting her a friend would help distract her and give her a playmate. Do you think that’s a good idea? Would love some advice from people who’ve added a second cat!
I totally think you should get another one! My cat was similar—always trying to escape. Once we got her a buddy, they started playing together, and she doesn’t try to run off anymore. Just make sure to introduce them slowly so they don’t get overwhelmed.
@Sage
That’s exactly what I’m hoping for! How long did it take your cats to get along?

It took about two weeks of careful introductions. We started with separate spaces and short supervised meetings, but now they’re inseparable!
If you can handle another one, I’d say go for it! My cats are best friends, and they keep each other entertained. It’s fun to watch them zoom around the house together.

That sounds so cute! I’d love to have two cats playing together. Did they get along right away?
@Keir
Not right away. They were a little cautious at first, but after a few days, they started warming up to each other. Now they’re partners in crime!
Yes! Just make sure you introduce them properly. I always do a ‘wet food party’ when introducing new cats to help them bond over something they both love.

Ooh, I love that idea! I’ll definitely try the wet food party trick when I bring a new cat home.
Just be careful with the introduction! I didn’t do it right once and my two cats had a tough time getting along. But if you introduce them slowly and let them get used to each other, they should be fine.
@Hale
Good point! I’ve heard that rushing the intro can cause issues, so I’ll definitely take it slow.
Another cat could be a good idea, but make sure you’re ready for the extra responsibility! If you’re up for it, it can be a great solution for her boredom and outside curiosity.

Yeah, that’s what I’m weighing right now. I just want her to be happy and entertained. Thanks for the advice!
