We live in Seattle. The neighbors next door put a fence around their front yard and opted to keep their two dogs outside. Both of these dogs were formerly indoor dogs, and I’m not sure why they decided to make them outdoor dogs (I believe it’s because they had a baby last year). As a result, we hear these dogs crying all day and night. This has been going on for several months now. I’m tired of hearing these pets whimper. It brings my mood down. We have a dog that we adore. My wife and I were talking, and I wanted to go knock on the neighbors’ door and ask them to do something different. My wife and my mom think that it’s not my business. What would you do in this situation? Anything? Nothing?
Before addressing the neighbors, clarify your goals. Do you want to resolve the barking issue, express concerns about neglect, or push for surrendering the dogs? Open communication with neighbors is important. Also, it’s crucial to have potential solutions in mind before confronting the problem-causer.
I don’t enjoy hearing the dogs cry. It’s sad and feels off. Yes, I believe they are neglected. I believe they should either allow their dogs to live inside with them as they used to, or find new homes for them.
Ouch! That one prohibited me from taking my dogs for a walk since a neighbor had his dog tethered and I couldn’t walk by without hearing it bark and whine. It’s incredibly sad. I’d say it’s fine to politely ask them what they could do. It’s a shame THEY CANNOT F@&*£%G hear their dogs barking in their yard, but they should try. for you and your dogs.
Is that legal in Seattle? It is not legal in San Francisco. Report them.
Dogs are social pet who often become distressed when they are isolated or separated from their human partners. Investigate local animal control or noise restrictions in Seattle. If the problem remains and talking to them does not resolve it, you may want to seek counsel from local authorities.
Investigate town noise bylaws. Where I live, if you can hear a dog barking in a home for more than 10 minutes from 75 feet away, Animal Control will come and visit, and if it happens again, they will begin to accrue fines.
I think it’s very neglectful. It’s also probably illegal. I’d call your local animal control office.
