Hello Dog Owner, I am just worried about my dog and was hoping to obtain some answers. I took my dog Charlie to the emergency vet at 10 p.m. yesterday because he had been having bloody diarrhea since 8 p.m. They couldn’t tell me what was wrong, but they gave me anti-diarrhea medication, probiotics, and fluids for his dehydration. He slept all night until we arrived home at 4 a.m., and he didn’t want to eat breakfast today. But willingly accompanies me to the couch and sleeps on my lap. So, should I be concerned about his lack of appetite, or is he still quite tired?
Has the bloody diarrhea stopped? I might give him some food and schedule a follow-up appointment with his usual vet in a few days.
If you are still seeing blood, I propose taking fecal samples to figure out what’s going on inside
I would take them to visit your normal vet right away. I do not want to worry you, but this is serious. My cousin’s dog suddenly died a few weeks ago. She had bloody diarrhea for a few days before vomiting blood. They had to put her down since her usual vet felt they had delayed too long and were unable to halt the internal bleeding.
I second this.
HGE is serious. Maybe it isn’t HGE, but if the dog is still not eating, something needs to be done.
The dog should be examined by its regular veterinarian. The veterinarian can prescribe appetite boosts.
