Hi guys, I saw my neighbor with pigeons in cages outside and found one dead from neglect. This is the second time I’ve seen a dead pigeon. It seems like the person is careless and keeps them outside because they can’t be indoors. I don’t want to get involved, but the smell and feathers are getting close to my house, and it’s disgusting. I don’t particularly appreciate seeing these pigeons like this anymore. What should I do?
You should definitely call animal control.

I’m worried about these being my neighbors, though. I don’t want to get on their bad side.

You could make an anonymous tip.

I understand your concerns, but I couldn’t just watch animals suffer like this. It’s heartbreaking.
@Fintan
Exactly! They have food and water, but the water looks dirty—like greenish. Plus, there’s bird poop everywhere. I really want to call someone, but I don’t want to get in trouble.
It’s not the pigeons’ fault. It feels like watching innocent animals suffer, and it’s really hard for me. I want to make an anonymous report, but it’s just tough to go through with it.

It seems pretty straightforward. What makes it hard to just call anonymously?
@Vale
They’re my neighbors, and my mom thinks it’s better not to have any issues with them. It’s just us that see the pigeons like this since it’s on the side of our house.

I’d be careful about turning them in. Maybe try asking if they need help? It’s a tough situation. I’m really sorry about this.
@Vale
I’ve already made an anonymous tip. My mom has tried to talk to them about it, but they just brush it off. I think they are really careless with the pigeons.
You should call an animal rescue to come and check on them. Just make sure to keep it anonymous so your neighbors don’t suspect you.
You need to stop making excuses and point fingers. Nothing will change if nothing changes. You should definitely call animal control or the police (non-emergency number) and report this. You can remain anonymous with both agencies.
@Rowan
You’re right, but I feel guilty because other people have complained about the stray cats outside. I’m worried that if I call, they’ll report the cats too. I’ll still make an anonymous tip.
I really can’t understand why people keep wild animals like this in cages.

Pigeons have been domesticated for thousands of years. The ones you see in cities today are descendants of birds we kept as pets.
@Zion
Yes, you’re right. Keeping them caged as pets seems unnecessary.

Pigeons aren’t wild; they’re domestic. What OP is seeing is neglect and abuse!

I appreciate your knowledge. My dad rescued pigeons when I was young, and they were great pets. But yeah, it’s sad to see how they’re treated now.
@Vale
It’s our fault these pigeons are causing problems. We need to do better by them.
