I’m feeling really heartbroken that my new kitten (14 weeks old) isn’t cuddly or engaging at all. She tends to walk away, even during playtime. We’ve been together for almost 3 weeks now, and I’m really hoping this isn’t how it’ll stay. Anyone else experience this? Any advice or tips?
Give it some more time! 3 weeks is still pretty new for her to fully adjust to her new home. You might see more social behavior after 3 months.
It could be a lot of things, like her getting used to the new environment. But it might also just be her personality. What have you been doing to bond with her so far?
She’s still really young, so her personality isn’t fully set yet. Different cats have different likes and motivators. Have you figured out what she enjoys? Any favorite toys or treats? Try exposing her to different things. Also, not all cats are cuddly, and many prefer it on their own terms. Maybe try using soft fuzzy blankets on your lap to encourage her to come to you, or pet her while she’s eating to build some positive associations.
My cat took over a year to become cuddly. He was really independent and standoffish as a kitten but eventually became super affectionate. Even if your cat doesn’t become a snuggler, I’m sure you’ll love her just the same.
Not all cats like snuggles. Mine only likes being pet in the kitchen, weirdly enough! Cats just have their own ways, and they’ll be how they’ll be.
Whatever you do, don’t force it. She might come around on her own, or she might not, but just give her space to be herself.
