New cat owner... need some advice?

Hi, new cat owner here. I recently adopted 2 three-month-old kittens that were rescued off the street. I brought them into my bedroom, planning on that being the only room they had access to for a couple weeks, but one of them darted out at the first chance. I found him hiding in a secluded area right before bed, and when I tried to secure him to put back in my bedroom, he took off. I’ve been searching all morning trying to find him, but no luck. Should I leave him be for now and let him come out when he wants to, or should I tear my apartment apart to find him? Thanks in advance!

Let him come out when he wants to. Just leave food available. It might take a few days for him to relax, longer if he was feral after eight weeks old. Just be calm and soft-spoken, and he’ll come around.

I had the same thing happen! Just let him be for now. He’ll pop out when he’s ready.

If you have a favorite toy or blanket, try putting it where you last saw him. Familiar scents can help him feel safe.

Make sure to give him some space. Kittens can be super skittish at first. He’ll come out when he feels secure.

Leaving food out is a good call. Just let him explore at his own pace. He’ll be back when he’s hungry!
