My dog has fleas and I need advice

Hello guys in this forum, I am new here and hoping to get some help with my dog’s flea problem.

My dog is a 9-year-old long-haired chihuahua. We’ve been using flea treatments and anti-flea shampoo, but nothing seems to work against those little pests.

I know stronger flea treatments are available from vets, but they are quite expensive. Plus, we have two cats that would need to go as well. If we have to, we will, but it would be great to find a solution without spending hundreds of pounds.

Does anyone know of an effective treatment I could buy online that works well? The typical store-bought ones aren’t doing the trick.

Edit: We manage to get all the fleas off our cats, but the dog seems to have super strong fleas that just keep coming back. It’s frustrating!

If you’re not treating your cats and your home, the fleas will just keep coming back.

I know we are treating the cats and the house too, but the issue is worse for our dog, which is why I focused on him. Sorry for not mentioning that sooner, but thanks for the reminder!

We can get all the fleas off the cats, but not the dog.

Try using Dawn dish soap. It works.

In my area, fleas are becoming resistant to over-the-counter treatments. I’ve found prescription flea control like Simparica works much better.

You might not have gotten all the fleas off the cats if there are still fleas in your home. Cats groom themselves a lot, so they may have fleas you don’t see. What prevention are you using? Flea shampoo isn’t good for prevention or treatment. Remember, animals can get tapeworms from fleas, so having a good monthly flea and tick prevention is really important. With multiple pets, it might take a few months to get this under control, but it’s possible if you do it right.
