Managing Cat Allergies

I’m hosting Christmas at my house. My son asked to bring his cat so they don’t have to board her. My mother and brother are allergic to cats. If I leave the cat in our lower walkout level and run a HEPA room air filter, will that mitigate allergies? We have a gas forced air furnace (return air pulls from the entire house), so I’m uncertain how proximity to the cat plays into this.

Any cat owners who deal with allergies from friends/family that could provide insight would be appreciated. TIA!

If the cat is in a different area that those with allergies don’t go in, there is less possibility that people will react. You can also tell allergic folks to bring some allergy meds just in case.

That’s a good idea! It might also help to keep the doors closed to the room where the cat is.

@Jensen
And make sure to vacuum and clean the area beforehand to reduce allergens.

Running the HEPA filter can help, but it’s best if the cat has its own space away from the main gathering area.
