I have to leave my 11-week-old puppy alone for 2-3 hours soon, and I’m feeling anxious about it. He’s mostly potty trained (wee wee pads) and sleeps in a crate overnight, but he’s never been in the crate during the day. He has a gated playpen where he spends time when I’m working, but he’s a jumper, and I’m worried he might get out and hurt himself. The crate seems safer, but this will be his first time alone. Any suggestions on how to make it easier for him? Will he be okay?
You’re doing great for thinking ahead! Putting him in the crate sounds like the best option. Maybe drape a blanket over it to make it feel like nighttime. If he’s already walked and fed, he’ll probably just nap while you’re out.
Agree with the crate. Maybe try putting him in there for short periods during the day before you leave, so it’s not a total shock. That way, he can get used to it and hopefully relax when you’re out.
2-3 hours shouldn’t be an issue, especially if the crate is roomy enough. Make sure he’s comfortable, and he’ll likely just nap. Puppies sleep a lot at that age!

He’s got a medium-sized crate, and he’s only 4 pounds, so there’s plenty of space. Thanks for the reassurance!
Leaving him for a few hours isn’t a big deal, and a crate is the safest option to prevent him from getting hurt. Maybe set up a puppy cam so you can check in on him if you’re nervous. He might have an accident, but that’s a lot better than him getting hurt.
If you’re putting him in the crate, try covering it with a blanket to mimic nighttime, and leave the TV or radio on so he hears some background noise. It can be really soothing for puppies and help them feel less alone.
