So there are several stray cats where I live, and I feed and care for them. One cat recently went into labour and gave birth. But her other kitty, who is about 6 months old, has suddenly refused to leave his mother’s side. He won’t exit the container I built for his mother and stays with her throughout the childbirth. He even licked the kittens. Why does he do this? Is he feeling protective of his mother or something?

Oh my goodness, what a lovely kitten! He appears to adore his mother and longs to be present for her and the children. Animals may be quite compassionate. Does he cuddle with the newborns or only mom?

Yeah, He even cuddles up with the kittens now. No jealousy so far, just pure love.

It sounds like he has a strong attachment to his mother and may feel compelled to defend her. Cats can exhibit nurturing qualities at an early age.
