Just buried my dog… worried about animals digging him up

He was 14 years old, my best buddy till the end.

I’m in Florida and I couldn’t get deeper than 2 feet before the hole started filling with water. I packed it down as best as I could, but now I’m worried animals might try to dig him up.

Does anyone have any suggestions or DIY ideas to keep animals away from the grave?

You could try getting some paving stones from a local hardware store. They’re not too expensive and might help. I’ve heard castor oil is good to keep moles away, but with all the rain and wet soil, I’m not sure if it’ll work. Really sorry about your loss.

Maybe plant a flower or a nice rose bush over the spot? Could be a nice way to honor him too.

I’m really sorry for your loss. In India, people use salt over graves to keep animals away, though I’m not entirely sure why it works.

You could try sprinkling lye powder over the area. If you can’t get that, just put something heavy on top like bricks, plywood, or even some stones to keep animals from digging. Maybe bleach or soap could also help?

Did you put him in a box or just the ground?

I’m really sorry for your loss, my friend.

I buried my cat earlier this year and had the same problem with water filling the hole. It’s tough but I managed to get some metal grates and placed decorative rocks over the grave. It made it harder for animals to get curious and dig around.

Wishing you the best.
