I took my two British Shorthair kittens to the vet yesterday to be neutered. My kitten Kiba’s wound looks fine—no bleeding, and the incision is closed. However, my other kitten, Kobu (7 months old), has had a bit of bleeding at the incision site since surgery. Today, I noticed what looks like an artery or cord outside one of his incisions.
I’m not sure if this is normal or if it could be a complication. My vet is closed until tomorrow morning, so I’ll bring him in then. Meanwhile, I’m worried about keeping the wound clean to prevent infection but am unsure what I can do for him until the vet opens.
Should I wait until tomorrow to see the vet, or should I consider finding an emergency clinic? Any advice on caring for the wound in the meantime would be appreciated.
What you’re describing is likely the ligated spermatic cord and testicular artery. With feline neuters, the incision often heals on its own without being closed. Could you share a bit more about the bleeding—how much are you seeing?

That makes sense, thank you. I can’t post pictures here, but when he sits, there’s a small drop left behind. There’s no blood when he’s lying down or walking, so it seems to happen only when he presses on the wound. I posted pictures in a different forum: r/cathelp. Could you let me know if there’s anything specific I should do to take care of it?
