I went to pick up some food and toys for my dog the other day, and I was shocked at how much prices have gone up. It feels like everything from kibble to squeaky toys costs a fortune now. Am I just imagining things, or have other pet owners noticed this too? Any recommendations for affordable pet supply stores or brands? I love spoiling my furry friend, but my wallet can’t keep up.
Petco overcharges in-store. I always make an online cart when I’m shopping in store and then make them price match THEMSELVES at the register. I’m livid about it. I go there as an absolute last resort
I had to buy a bottle of water conditioner—$3 online, $10 at the register. I don’t understand how they get away with that. It should be illegal to have different prices online versus in-store unless it’s marked ‘online price only.’
@Keir
And you forgot PetSmart too. Never trust the online prices!

I won’t go to PetSmart anymore after they refused to give me adoption coupons. Found a stray kitten on a tire and asked for the ‘new adoption’ coupons, but they wanted adoption papers. I was like, ‘Well, the tire didn’t have papers.’ They still refused. Weird hill to die on, but here we are.

PetSmart gives discounts all the time, but they do ask for shelter paperwork. That’s probably why you didn’t get the coupons.
Nope, they’ve always been expensive, especially for the higher-end foods. Even Purina is getting pricey.
It’s not just you. Sometimes I feel like feeding my two cats costs as much as feeding myself. I’d go cheaper, but I’d rather avoid the vet bills later.
I rarely use pet stores anymore. I do buy my pets’ food from Petco for the ‘7th bag free’ deal. As for toys, I hit up the clearance bin.
Amazon is my go-to for toys and treats—I sift through all the junk for good brands and always check reviews. Chewy’s another option, especially with those autoship deals (I just cancel after the purchase ).
Yep, as people steal more, the prices keep going up for the rest of us. We end up paying the price while these thieves walk out with armloads of stuff.
