My mother has a pet dog she keeps him in his cage all night I can’t ever sleep is there a solution to this?

How old is your mother’s dog? How long has this been going on? Does he have separation anxiety or have too much energy?

A lot of energy :disappointed_relieved:

How is he in the day?

He’s always running around and playing, he never barks when he’s not in his cage

Try putting him in his crate during the day for a minute and rewarding him if he remains calm before letting him out. Maybe serve him his food in the crate but leave the door open. Continue practicing until you can keep him in there longer without him barking. He needs to remain cool. Whatever you do, avoid giving him attention when he barks. How is he doing while no one is home? He might experience separation anxiety.

@Ill_Opportunity_4642 Not only that but it sounds like the dog could use more stimulating activity to tire it out. Running around and just general playing isn’t enough. What is the dog’s breed?

He is a toy poodle @CharliePaws

@Ill_Opportunity_4642 Does the dog have sleep times? Dogs can sleep 18-20 hours per day. If the dog does not get enough sleep and is overly active, it can develop behavioral disorders. Poodles thrive in environments that provide plenty of mental activity. Things should improve if the dog becomes accustomed to the crate and understands that it is a safe space/only for it/relaxation area.

My mom started letting him out in the morning and he’s still barking. She says it’s because he needs attention, but I don’t want to play with him :broken_heart:. What might I do?

@Ill_Opportunity_4642 She needs to teach him an instruction to stay quiet. It’s similar to how youngsters seek attention, but it doesn’t imply they’ll get it right away. A child who screams and yells for attention will be told no and taught not to repeat the behavior and to be patient. The same theory applies here.

Has the dog received any basic obedience training?
