Got a new 10-month-old cat… now my 8-year-old seems down

As the title says, we have an 8-year-old cat who’s been with us for a long time, and we recently adopted a younger cat to keep him company since we’re busy college students. Our older cat used to get really anxious when we’d leave and was always excited when we got home.

The two cats actually seem to get along well, but I’ve noticed that our older cat has become more tired and less active since we brought the younger one home. I’m not sure if he’s feeling down, getting sick, or just exhausted from keeping up with his new, energetic buddy.

I’m planning to take him to the vet soon, but I thought I’d ask for some advice here to see if anyone has experienced something similar.

He’s probably just feeling a bit down and maybe tired from keeping up with the new guy. I had a similar experience with my cats—they weren’t thrilled at first, but after a few weeks of extra love and attention, they started getting along. Now they even play together! Try to spend some extra quality time with your older cat. Good luck, and I hope they’ll be best buddies soon!
