Hey all, I recently moved onto a ranch and left a bed outside for my cat. Now I have a whole cat family visiting every night (2 adults and 4 kittens). They snuggle up in the bed to stay warm, and I can tell they’re hungry. I talked to my landlord about one adult cat who looked malnourished, but she didn’t have much information. My neighbor mentioned that the adult cat is the father of many farm cats here. I’m unsure if there’s a difference between ‘stray’ and ‘farm’ cats, but they clearly don’t have a home.
This is all new territory for me since I rent on someone’s farm, and I’m not sure what steps to take for these cats. None of them are fixed, and I can’t imagine they want to keep having more kittens. My landlord didn’t seem to know what to do either, so I’m wondering if my neighbor is neglecting them. Any advice on what I should do?
Sounds like those cats have adopted you! If no one claims them and they’re not fixed, you might want to look into a local TNR (trap-neuter-return) program. It helps keep them healthy and stops the baby boom. Talk to your landlord or neighbors first, but if they don’t care, you might have to take the lead. Feeding them is nice, but without fixing them, the cycle will just keep going. Ranch life sounds wild—props for stepping up for these kitties!
Yeah, definitely don’t just dump any unwanted kittens anywhere. Farms often don’t want more cats and can be overwhelmed. It’s sad to hear, but they might even euthanize them. If you have pets, it’s your responsibility to take care of them. Just dumping them isn’t a solution!
It’s great that you’re looking out for them! Maybe consider reaching out to local animal shelters for advice. They might have resources for TNR or fostering.
