Ex-girlfriend stole my cat... need some advice

I found out that in Nevada, pets are considered property, so she can’t just take him.

Hey everyone, my ex-girlfriend and I recently split while I was out of town. She packed all her things and left, but she took my cat with her. I have him microchipped and I have adoption papers with my name on them. How can I get my furry friend back?

She put a temporary protection order against me, which will last a week until it gets dropped. I want to get him back as soon as possible. The issue is that she moved back in with her mom, about 60 miles away in a different county. Who should I call?

I don’t want to violate the TPO and cause more trouble. I can only imagine how he’s doing right now. Should I contact my county or hers? If I call her county, will I need to show proof in person? I can provide the adoption papers or the microchip info. My parents live near her; could they possibly help get him with the police?

I suggest contacting local authorities and the authorities in her area. If she’s still in Nevada, the law will apply, so be ready to show proof that he is your cat.

Your parents can go and get him due to the TPO. Depending on the conditions he’s in, if she did anything to him, you might be able to press charges against her.

@Arden
You could also sue for emotional distress if you want to go that route. It might be smart to talk to a lawyer, especially if she got the TPO under false pretenses.
