Dog just had mast cell tumor removed

Hello Folks, I am a new member here, and I’m not sure how I didn’t join sooner!

My dog, Chalupa, underwent surgery approximately a week ago to remove four lumps. One turned out to be a simple lipoma, while the other was just fat, so no worries. However, two of the biopsy results revealed that they were mast cells. They’re putting him on “antrenex” to suppress histamines, in the hopes that it may prevent more tumors from developing.

I am still processing this news and trying to figure out what additional questions I should ask. He has a follow-up visit in a few days to get his stitches removed. Three things I know I’d like to ask the veterinarian:

  1. What are the chances that the tumors will recur?
  2. Is he going to be on this drug for the rest of his life?
  3. What happens if the lumps continue to appear?

Does anyone want to share their experiences with mast cell tumors?

You need to talk with the vet who did the surgery. Expert professional doctor.

Yes, I am dealing directly with her.

Good luck no more tumors. Good luck to you both.
