Couch that can withstand cats and dogs?

We are in the market for a new couch, and I am receiving Instagram adverts from a variety of “washable” and “pet friendly” firms. I am wondering if anyone has any recommendations. We’ve been considering the lovesac, but we don’t want to spend $6,000 on a couch that our pets could damage.

We have two huge malamutes, so there’s a lot of fur, and three cats, which means even more fur and scratching. Velvet, according to what I’ve seen, is ideal for scratching. Our main concern is that one cat tends to pee on the couch when we leave for the weekend. She has several litter boxes and has been to the doctor to rule out a UTI. It is strictly behavioral; when we leave her alone for the night, she will pee on the couch in protest. So, if possible, a new couch should be waterproof. We presently maintain water-resistant coverings on the couch, but I like the cleaner appearance of a new couch that I can clean as needed.

My partner and I purchased our sectional from Costco. Why spend so much money? We looked for cushion covers that could be removed and washed. Put the cushions in a plastic trash bag and then cover them with cushion covers. I also purchased a washable couch cover.

We have had good luck with leather couches. Cats seem to hate them. but you can give them a try.

I had a lounger couch manufactured with detachable and washable slipcovers, however, it is not scratch-proof.

I have a lovesac that my cat refuses to scratch, and the crushed velvet coverings are really easy to remove their hair from.

I know how it feels to be in your shoes. When you have more than one pet, it becomes tough to look for a couch that will not show signs of wear out soon. Fur and scratching are something you have to think about taking into consideration your 2 big malamutes and 3 cats. Velvet might help with scratching but does not solve such issues as when the cats pee on the couch as a protest.

In what concerns your preferences, I think it is important to focus on waterproof and easy-to-clean products. Nonetheless, the Lovesac couches are acceptable; unfortunately, it is relatively expensive. As we have seen, there are many couches today that are marketed as “washable “and “pet-friendly” but these recommendations may be misleading.

First, look at some “upholstered” types of furniture like couches with ‘performance fabrics’ like Crypton, which won’t be easily scratched by pet claws or stained by pet paws. Also, the ones that have upholstery that can be easily removed and washed may provide a solution when the couch gets soiled by accidents.

Waterproof blankets are quite helpful only for a while. The best solution, of course, would be to look for a more reliable and long-lasting material. I will leave it to you to find the couch of your desire and hopefully, one which can handle your pets.
