I read an article on HonestPaws claiming that Cerenia tablets are unsafe for cats and may cause them “great harm.” They don’t explain what harm it could cause or the mechanisms involved. Is there any truth to this claim, or is it misinformation? I’ve been using Cerenia for my cat, and it seems to help with his symptoms of feline idiopathic cystitis. I’m just looking for clarification on the safety of Cerenia tablets for cats, not medical advice.
I work in a cat-only practice, and Cerenia is one of the most commonly prescribed drugs. I’d say whatever website said that is likely not trustworthy.
It’s used off-label for cats, but I haven’t seen any reputable sources claiming it can cause harm. Honest Paws is a site that sells CBD products, so I’d be cautious with their claims.
We prescribe Cerenia a lot for cats, especially older or sick cats. It’s one of my favorite drugs—very effective with no adverse effects that I’ve seen. Breaking the dose for smaller cats can be tricky, though.
As a feline-only tech, I can confirm we use Cerenia frequently with no issues. It’s off-label because they haven’t spent money to label it for cats, but we’ve never seen adverse effects. I’d say that site is likely misinformed.
I’d take HonestPaws’ claims with caution. Sometimes it’s worth investigating claims independently if sources aren’t reliable.

I haven’t found any other sources saying it’s harmful to cats. HonestPaws might be exaggerating. Cerenia’s been a game-changer for my cat with cystitis, improving his mood and comfort significantly.
We regularly use Cerenia for cats. We don’t send the labeled packaging to avoid confusion since it states “for dogs only.” It’s safe for cats and rabbits, too.

My vet told me it’s commonly used off-label for cats. My cat’s dose is 8 mg every 24 hours, and it’s been incredibly effective.
Thanks for all the insights. This clears things up and confirms that HonestPaws was likely being overly cautious. Cerenia is really helping my cat!
We use Cerenia tablets in cats, mostly for cystitis-related inflammation, and it seems to work well without issues. It’s very effective for reducing symptoms quickly.

I’ve noticed my cat’s mood and comfort improve significantly with Cerenia, although he still has some urinary issues. It really seems like a miracle treatment.
Yes, it’s perfectly safe. I understand why owners might worry, but there’s nothing to be concerned about.
Cerenia is labeled only for dogs due to FDA costs, but vets commonly prescribe it off-label for cats with great success. I see it used daily with no side effects.
