Cats Fighting During Wife’s Early Pregnancy

Hey everyone, first time posting here! My wife is 9 weeks and 2 days pregnant with our first child! We have four cats, and they generally get along well. However, two of them have started fighting more often lately.

  • Cat 1: Gets along with everyone
  • Cat 2: Gets along with everyone
  • Cat 3: Gets along with everyone except Cat 4
  • Cat 4: Gets along with everyone except Cat 3

They used to have occasional hissing matches, but now it’s happening multiple times a day. This change seems sudden, and we suspect it might be related to my wife’s hormonal changes during pregnancy. We’re looking for opinions and suggestions on how to handle this.

We’re picking up hormone diffusers for “happy cats” at Petco after dinner, but we’re worried about how this will affect things for the next several months, especially with the baby coming. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

(Side note: Just after posting, there was another little skirmish!)

We picked that up last night! We know it can take a week or two to work. We ended up putting the aggressor in a separate area with her toys and essentials overnight.

That sounds like a good plan! It might help to give them their own spaces while adjusting. Also, make sure to give them plenty of attention to reduce jealousy.

Hormonal changes can definitely affect cat behavior. Just be patient and monitor them closely. If it continues, consider consulting a vet or an animal behaviorist.

Congrats on the pregnancy! Just remember that cats can sense changes in their environment. Keeping things calm and stable will help them adjust.
