My cat is 3 years old, and all of a sudden, he’s started peeing on my bed. Nothing major has changed recently, and I’m trying to figure out how to stop him. Any ideas on what could be causing this or how to fix it?
It’s probably a UTI, so take him to the vet to get checked out. Cats only pee outside the litter box if something is wrong.

How would he get that though?

No idea… but definitely get him to the vet. Cats don’t pee on beds unless there’s an issue.

Thank you
Cats can get UTIs if the litter box isn’t scooped often enough.
My cat used to pee on my bed and rugs, and I found out it was because she had pancreatitis. Definitely take your cat to the vet just to be safe.
Something is up. The cat is trying to tell you. Male cats can develop life-threatening blockages due to crystals in their urine, which can kill them within 24 hours if not treated. It’s really important to get your cat checked ASAP.
Are you sure nothing changed? Even small things like moving furniture or changing food can throw a cat off.

School started recently. Maybe that’s it?

If it didn’t happen when school started last time, I doubt that’s the cause.
My cat started peeing in the laundry basket, and nothing I did worked until I started shutting her out of the bedroom. It seemed like she was just being more sensitive to changes as she got older.

Did shutting the door stop her from peeing elsewhere or just on the bed?

It stopped her entirely as long as I didn’t leave laundry where she could get at it. I also noticed that she was more likely to pee when the litter box was dirty.

Maybe that’s why mine is going in my bed—he’s mad at me for going back to school. Poor guy doesn’t remember last year.

That could totally be it. You could try covering the bed with a shower curtain from the dollar store when you’re not home. It worked for me!

Thanks for the tip! I’ll try it.
My vet told me most cats don’t drink enough water, which can lead to UTIs. Feeding wet food helps since it adds more fluid to their diet.
Usually, it’s best to have two litter boxes for one cat. But it could still be a UTI, especially for male cats. I’d recommend getting him checked out by a vet.
