My cat keeps scooping the water out of their fountain, and it just gets everywhere. I don’t know how to stop it and would love some advice. It’s a flowing water fountain, so getting a different type isn’t an option.
Buy a mat? My dog is a messy drinker, so we bought a mat for her food and water bowls. The cat’s bowl is just sitting on a towel.

Not trying to encourage the behavior. She isn’t a messy drinker; she just scoops the water out for no reason. I need it to stop!
I would recommend discussing this with a vet. If you approach it the wrong way, your cat may form a negative association with drinking.
Why are you so keen for her to stop? If you have genuine wooden floors, she could be damaging them, but otherwise, what harm is she doing? Maybe just put the fountain on a mat and ignore it.
Consider placing the fountain on a tray to catch any water that spills out. Cats just seem to enjoy playing with water.
Cats might be playing with the water because they enjoy it. Try different water sources, like a dripping faucet, to see if she prefers that.
