I’m visiting my parents’ home with my cat, who usually lives in my dorm. We’ve been here for two days, and she’s kind of scared of their big dogs. She’s generally skittish, especially with things like the vacuum, which was on today. I thought she was hiding, but after staying at a friend’s last night, my parents let her roam around the house and haven’t seen her at all today. It’s getting late, and I’m starting to worry. I don’t think she could’ve slipped outside, but we’ve turned the house upside down looking for her. Not sure what to do.
Pull out all your drawers! They can climb up the back of some chests and into the drawers.
Chances are she found a hiding spot. When you find her, keep her in your room so she doesn’t feel like she has to hide from the dog. They’re natural predators to cats. Maybe take a bag of her favorite treats around the house and call her name. Check behind dressers and under furniture. Remember, anywhere their head can fit, their body can too!
@Parker
Good idea! I’ll definitely check under the dressers again. I didn’t think about her getting into small spaces.
Do they have any areas of open ceiling access? Cats love to hide where they aren’t supposed to go. And check high closet shelves too!

I’ll check the closets! I didn’t think of that… she could be up there.
Cats are masters at hiding. My mom’s cat disappeared on the first day but the kibble she put out disappeared overnight. I recommend putting some kibble out, closing the dogs in a room, and seeing if the food is eaten. She’ll come out when she calms down.
@Harlem
That’s a great tip! I’ll put some kibble out tonight.
If she did get out, she’s probably hiding nearby. I’d put some tuna, a box, and something comfy with good smells in the bushes nearest the house.

Thanks for the suggestion! I’ll try that too…
