Can cold weather kill fleas

I ordered Merial Frontline Plus Flea and Tick Control for 45 to 88-Pound Dogs and Puppies. My mom thinks I am crazy to spend the money on it right now (college kid), because “they will die off now that its cold.” We live in Connecticut, temperatures are dropping below freezing at night. I am going to use the product regardless, but is there a chance they will all die off, anyway? My dog, an 8-year-old Golden Cocker Spaniel mix, discovered a case of fleas about a month ago. The natural flea spray and phenothiazine shampoo were unsuccessful in treating them.

Cold temperatures can harm fleas, but it does not always kill them. Adult fleas may live in temperatures as low as 30.2°F (-1°C), but they die after five days1. However, fleas in their early phases of development, particularly the pupa stage, can go dormant and survive the cold by waiting it out.
