Any advice on cats coming home from neutering surgery?

I’m fostering two male kittens, about seven months old, who just got neutered today. They’ve been home for about an hour, and it’s been a disaster. Both are freaking out about their cones (one won’t keep it on) and have started fighting over food. The one who’s being aggressive is usually very sweet. I’ve put them in separate carriers for now, but I’m worried about keeping them in there all night. One of them has also jumped on the dresser despite my efforts to gently put him down, and his incision is a bit bloody. Is some bleeding normal just hours after surgery? What can I do tonight to help them? I’ve ordered different cones that should arrive tomorrow, but I need advice on handling the situation until then. Please help! :weary:

Sounds like a stressful evening! It’s normal for them to be a bit disoriented after surgery. Just keep them calm and separate until they settle down.

A little bleeding can be normal, but keep an eye on it. If it seems excessive or you notice swelling, you might want to call the vet.

Try distracting them with toys or treats to ease the tension. Sometimes a little playtime can redirect their energy.

Cones can be annoying for them! If they won’t keep it on, try a soft recovery collar if you have one. Just supervise them closely.

Make sure their space is quiet and comfortable. Reducing loud noises can help them relax after the surgery.

Separating them was a good call. Once they’ve calmed down, you can try reintroducing them slowly. Keep a close eye on their interactions.

If they keep fighting, consider giving them some time apart until the cones arrive. It’s better than risking injury.

Hydration is important! Make sure they have fresh water available, especially since they might not be eating as much right now.

I’ve been there! Just give them some time. After a few days, they’ll be back to their usual selves. Hang in there!

If the bleeding doesn’t stop or gets worse, don’t hesitate to reach out to your vet for advice. Better safe than sorry!
