Worried About My Cat

Hi everyone,

I’m really concerned about my cat, and I’m hoping someone here might have some advice. Before I get into it, I want to mention that it costs around $300 just for an emergency vet visit in my area, and right now that’s not something we can easily afford, unlike when we first got her.

Last night, I noticed that my cat’s breathing is fast and short, though she’s still breathing through her nose, not her mouth. Her behavior has changed a lot—she seems depressed, her back is twitching, and she’s been hiding and sleeping more than usual. Normally, she’s a really sweet and somewhat social cat. Her meows and purrs sound raspy now, too.

She’s about 4-5 years old, and I’m just really worried. We recently got her a water fountain, but she hasn’t shown any interest in drinking from it yet. My mom thinks it might be heart failure since her gums are pale, and she seems bloated. She was also vomiting a lot about a week ago, though I’m not sure if that’s related.

Has anyone else experienced something like this with their cat? Is going to the vet crucial, or is this something that could potentially be fixed at home? We’re planning to take her to the vet this weekend if she doesn’t improve, but I’m hoping to get some insight in the meantime.

Thank you so much for any advice you can offer. I’m just really worried about my kitty.
