Hey guys, I had a bit of a financial crisis and couldn’t take my dog for his booster shots and yearly checkup. He was supposed to get his 3-year booster in September, but now the vet appointment isn’t until January 21st. I’m worried this will mess up his vaccination schedule. What do you all think?
It’s every 3 years after the initial series. He should just get the shots in Jan and then again in three years.
And stuff happens sometimes. I forgot about my dog’s Bravecto in August.
I don’t schedule anything for August anymore. It’s just too hot and humid where I live. If something is due in August, it’s getting done in July or after school starts in September.
That depends on the laws where you live. I’m in CT and it’s three years regardless, even if it’s overdue, but RI is one year if it’s past due.
Same in Ontario, Canada - if you’re even 1 day past due on a 3-year, you have to get a 1-year.
A few months makes no difference with yearly vaccines.
Nope.
Not an issue. Happy New Year!
If it’s with the same vet or you bring previous records, no problem. Some places have very strict laws where if you’re even a couple days overdue, the vaccine is only good for 1 year.
When we missed a few months after the 3 years were up (because of moving and life), the vet said it was better to do one year since it had been so long, and then we could continue getting 3 years after that.
Did you know the rabies vaccine has an efficacy of 5 years? So unless your dog has a fight with an animal with rabies.
6.5 actually…
No.
I forgot my paper that said my dog had his rabies shot when I took him in last (new vet, left it on my kitchen counter ) and they wouldn’t give him a 3-year shot without proof of prior vaccines. Just make sure your vet has his records or you bring them.
Depends on where you live and how much the vet likes to play with fire. Here in Ontario, Public Health dictates rules for rabies vaccines. If an animal is even a single day late, we have to do a 1-year vaccine.
It depends on your vet. Some will have you restart, others will just give the booster and assume she still has some immunity. Bring your records with you.
It’s like tetanus for humans, just shorter intervals. You’ve never had to restart your tetanus vaccine because you missed your 10-year booster, right?
