Why is adopting a dog feeling so hopeless…

@Remington
The shelter I adopted from recently uses PetFinder and Adopt a Pet. They don’t fill out the details about each pet well. They often just list a few photos and some basic info. I had to call about every pet we liked, but they were always happy to share more details over the phone.

I had a rough time adopting my last dog through PetFinder, even though I owned my home in the country and worked from home. It was easier to apply for a mortgage than to adopt. They even wanted to inspect my home and yard, which felt intrusive. The main issue was that my yard isn’t fenced in, which is tough since it’s 4.5 acres! I ended up adopting a 10-week-old pup, thanks to my vet’s recommendation, so keep trying! If you have a good vet, ask for a reference.

We have a pit mix and just call him a basset hound mix when renting. Nobody really cares about mixed breeds in my experience.

Have you tried using the PetFinder app? That’s how I found my two dachshunds from families needing to rehome them due to moving.

I got my best chihuahua through PetFinder. The breeder only had one little boy left, and I fell in love! She let me adopt him as a birthday gift from my boyfriend. Many small dogs are given to shelters because of behavior issues, but it’s hard to change those. I had to wait a month for him to come home so he wouldn’t be separated from his mom too soon. Good luck! Your perfect dog is out there!
