What dog skin problems need better solutions?

Hi Folks, I’ve been noticing how difficult it can be to find the right products for certain dog skin problems. From dry patches to tear stains, it seems like some issues aren’t well addressed. What skin-related challenges do you think need more attention or better solutions? I’d love to hear your thoughts on this!

More completely chicken-free options would be great. It seems like so many products still have chicken, which is a common allergen for dogs.

I totally agree. Companies really need to disclose when they’ve reformulated a product. I had a situation with a Costco Kirkland food that changed without notice. If I hadn’t checked the ingredients, I wouldn’t have known! Thankfully, I keep other food for my chicken-sensitive dog. It wasn’t a massive change, but they added chicken fat, and I just want the original back. Chicken is a huge allergen for many dogs.

That sounds frustrating. It’s so important for pet food companies to be transparent about ingredients.

Instead of just throwing meds at skin issues, we need more options for single protein foods or grain-free foods to help rule out food allergies. A lot of skin issues are related to food or fleas. Also, better quality flea products available over the counter would help a lot. Many products just aren’t effective, and if a dog starts having skin problems, people often overlook fleas because they think the products they’re using are sufficient.

Yeah, it’s sad to see animals come into rescue with hair loss just because of ineffective flea treatments. It seems more common with outdoor cats, but it happens to dogs too.

Exactly! Flea issues can easily be missed if the products aren’t working, and it leads to so many unnecessary problems.
