@Lei
I really hope he’s just nearby and will show up soon. Glad to hear your cat made it home. I’m working on flyers and calling vets. We’ll go door to door once my husband gets home, and I’ve just updated his chip info. Thanks so much for the tips.
@Bliss
You’re doing everything you can. I have high hopes you’ll be reunited soon. He can’t have gone far unless he was chased. Please keep me updated, I’ll be thinking of you. What’s his name?

His name’s Soot. I rescued him when he was a kitten from a freeway, and he looked like he was covered in black soot. That’s part of why I’m so worried—he’s terrified of dogs and cars.
@Lei
Any luck with Soot? It’s actually a good thing he’s sketchy around dogs and cars—it’ll keep him from wandering too far. I’m betting he’s really close, just hiding because he’s scared. Try sitting outside for a while and calling him calmly. He’ll come back when he feels safe enough.
@Lei
Thank you so much for thinking of us. He’s back home now! Came in like nothing happened, lol.

That’s fantastic! I’m so happy for you. Sounds like he had his little adventure and is back to being your ‘happy lil asshat’ lol.
Put his litter box and a favorite blanket outside. Even though he loves you, he may be too scared to approach right away. Also, check all hiding spots carefully with a flashlight—sometimes cats act like ferals when they’re scared and hide from their own owners. He’s probably close by, so search thoroughly before expanding your search area.
@Shiloh
Thank you so much for all the helpful advice. Thankfully, he’s home now, but I’m going to remember this for future situations.
I live in Bellingham too, and I’ll keep an eye out for Soot. Put out his used cat litter—it can help guide him home.
Indoor kitties really need ID tags because they can get lost more easily. Also, sardines work wonders for luring them back home.
