We’ve had our sweet cat for several years. Then, my son wanted his own cat, so we got a kitten. After about 3 months, our older cat started peeing on our bath mats and vanity rugs. She uses the litter box for number two but then goes out and pees on the mats. We keep the litter box scooped and fresh. This is really annoying. Help!
You need one litter box for each cat plus one extra. Try using Feliway; your older cat may feel stressed by the new kitten.
Consider getting a Feliway diffuser for multicat households. You need at least one litter tray per cat, plus one extra, spaced out for privacy. Also, ensure your older cat has time away from the kitten.

We’ve got the litter box situation covered but will try the Feliway.
Take the cat to the vet to rule out health issues. It’s likely a litter box issue; older cats don’t like feeling vulnerable to a playful kitten. Make sure she has her own box in a safe spot.
When cleaning the mats, use an enzyme cleaner to eliminate the urine smell. Cats often return to places they’ve marked if the scent remains.
Make sure there’s plenty of fresh water available, away from the litter boxes. Cats prefer their water bowls to be separate from their food and litter boxes.
