I’m from India. As winter is slowly arriving, my Shihtzu, who will be 4 in January, has recently started showing a high appetite. She has her usual walk routines, proper treat timings, and gets plenty of chicken and soup (her favorite) for meal times. Recently, I’ve noticed that she looks at me and shows signs of wanting to eat more, which is unusual. I’ve heard that during winters, dogs tend to have a lower appetite. Is this normal?
Have you taken your dog to the vet? Her thyroid may be out of balance. My dog has a thyroid problem and he has a big appetite.
My cat has been hungrier since it got cold too. Animals, like humans, want to eat more as winter approaches. Just feed your dog a little bit more.
Have you been to the vet?
My dog experienced this too. It could be a thyroid issue; it’s cheap and a small pill. A vet visit might be a good idea.
Dogs want to eat, and if you reward them for asking for food, they’ll ask more. If you’re really concerned, a vet visit might help, but wanting to eat all the time isn’t necessarily a big issue.
In summer, they tend to eat less. Ours always eat more in winter.
Has she been fixed? She might be pregnant if not.
The dog might want to put on some fat to stay warm during winter, or there could be a problem.
