My dog hasn't pooped yet after a move... anyone else?

Hello, my dog and I moved states yesterday, and we traveled for about 7 hours. I walked him three times during the trip, but he didn’t pee or poop at all. He was acting normal and drinking water. When we got to our new home, he ate and drank after exploring, but still didn’t go to the bathroom like he usually does. Before bed, he finally peed but still no poop. Today he hasn’t peed or pooped all day, even though he’s still eating and drinking. He doesn’t seem distressed or constipated, just hasn’t gone yet. Has anyone else experienced this with their dog? Is this just from the move or should I be worried?

This happened to my dog when we moved! He didn’t go for a day and a half. I think it was just nerves from the new place. He’ll probably poop soon. Try giving him some pumpkin to help things along, it always worked for my pup.

@Noel
I was wondering if it might be nerves. I’ll definitely try pumpkin if he still hasn’t gone by tomorrow. Thanks!

Totally normal after a big change! My dog always gets a little off schedule when we move or travel. Pumpkin works great and you can also try walking him in different areas to stimulate him to go.

What does pumpkin do exactly? Never heard of that trick.

@lolenzo
Pumpkin is really good for digestion in dogs, helps with constipation or even diarrhea. Just make sure it’s pure pumpkin, not the pie filling!

@lolenzo
Got it, thanks! I’ll keep that in mind if I ever need it.

My dog does the same thing every time we move or go somewhere new. Sometimes it takes a day or two before she poops. It’s like she’s waiting to feel more comfortable with the new environment. I wouldn’t worry just yet, but keep an eye on him.

@Sage
That’s comforting to hear! I’ll give it another day and see how he does.

If he’s still eating and drinking, he’s probably fine. The not pooping is likely stress-related. But if he doesn’t go in the next day or two, maybe give your vet a call just to be safe.

Yup, been through this with my dog too. He didn’t poop for almost 3 days when we moved. He was just nervous about the new place, but eventually, he adjusted and went. Pumpkin or sweet potato can help if he seems constipated.
