A few days ago, I found a cat in the bushes near my house. She was very thin and covered in fleas. She has been staying at my house for a few days now, and she seems to get very stressed whenever I have to leave the house. In an attempt to soothe her, I put 100% lavender oil into the air purifier and got her some toys. However, she doesn’t seem interested in any of the toys at all. I’m worried that I might be making her separation anxiety worse. I know she’s still adjusting to being here, but I want to do everything I can to make her comfortable. Any advice would be appreciated.
Feliway cat spray (calming phermoness) is more effective than lavender. Let kitty more time in order to adapt to being indoor-she may start moving around as she gets used to it.
I had seen things about calming pheromones but put the lavender in just until I had done more research on the pheromones. I will get to that. Seems that that might be one of the best options.
Have had the best experience when I USE lavender alongside Feliway. My 11-year-old pastel calico is skiddish ( actually an all-out coward) and would wet itself with fear. Running straight lavender did not help, and neither did running straight Feliway. If I run them at the same time, however, I can reach over to pet Halibel without it making her bolt out of the room, and the next thing I am mopping the floor.
Get rid of the lavender ASAP.
