Hey guys… so my cat is really not a fan of people, besides me, of course. Every time I get a pet sitter or ask a friend to drop by while I’m away, my cat just hides and doesn’t even come out to see them. It’s kinda sad because I lost the only friend who really bonded with him. I feel bad leaving him alone, but is it even worth it to pay a pet sitter to come every two days just for him to hide? I’m wondering how often I should have someone visit during the two weeks I’m gone.
I totally get it. My cat is also super shy. I usually just have someone come in every few days to check on them. But honestly, my cat just stays in hiding too. It’s like they have a sixth sense or something.
I hear you… my cat won’t even come out for visitors. I’ve found it helps to have someone just come in to change the litter and refill the food. That way, they don’t feel pressured to socialize.
Honestly, if your cat is that shy, I’d say don’t stress too much. Maybe just a check-in every few days? Cats are pretty independent.
I had the same issue with my cat. I started doing daily video calls to check in, and it helped me feel better while I was away. You could try that too.
