Missing my girl

I lost my 21-year-old Yorkie on January 20th, 2025. She has been with me my entire adult life. I got her the day I moved out of my parents’ house when I turned 18. She had been with me through everything: relationships, breakups, marriage, and divorce. She moved from one side of the country to the other with me three times. She was there when my first child was born. She kept me sane when I lost my grandmother back in 2021. She was with me when I lost my sister in 2023. She cuddled me when I lost my grandma number 2 in 2024. Now that she’s gone, I feel lost. I miss her so much. I feel lonely and sad. I don’t know how to move forward without her. I know it’s dumb to miss a dog like this (at least that’s what some of my family keeps saying), but I do. Thank you for letting me get this out, as my family keeps telling me that she was just a dog.

I’m so sorry to hear that. Losing a pet is incredibly tough. They are family, not just pets. It’s completely understandable to feel this way.

Exactly. Dogs give us so much love and support. It’s natural to grieve their loss deeply.

For real, pets go through so much with us. They deserve the same love and respect when they’re gone.

I lost my dog a few years ago, and it still hurts sometimes. It’s a huge loss, and it’s okay to take your time to grieve.

Thank you for saying that. I just feel like no one understands how much she meant to me.

You’re not dumb for feeling this way. Pets become such a big part of our lives. They bring joy and companionship.

Definitely. Just take it one day at a time. You’ll find a way to honor her memory.

It sounds like she was a wonderful companion. Have you thought about doing something special to remember her?

I haven’t yet, but I think that might help. Maybe I could make a little photo album or something.

It’s perfectly okay to miss her. Take all the time you need to process this. You loved her, and that matters.

Exactly. Everyone grieves differently, and there’s no timeline for it. Be kind to yourself.
