Hi, I’m part of a team of students at Texas A&M working on a locking tracking dog collar to help stop pet theft. Unfortunately, I am unable to include images of the collar in this thread. We are looking for advice on any features people would like to see or what people think about the collar and concept overall. If you are willing to take a look at the collar and give us advice, please DM me and I can send some photos!
Just don’t make it a subscription service to use the collar. I honestly think that’s where AKC collar went wrong and many other collars as well. Everything is a subscription, and it really takes away from being able to outright own the collar in order to use the features.
I think a GPS feature would be super helpful for tracking. Also, maybe a way to alert you if your dog goes outside a certain area?
What about a panic button? It could alert you or someone nearby if your dog is in danger or stolen. That could be really useful.
If it can connect to a smartphone app, that would be awesome. Notifications about your dog’s location or activity could be a game changer.

Thanks for the suggestion! An app could definitely enhance the user experience.
Durability is key for collars. Make sure it’s weather-resistant and tough enough for active dogs.
I’d love to see different sizes and colors. Not all dogs are the same, and owners like to personalize their pet’s gear.
I think it’s great that you’re working on this! Pet theft is a serious issue. How much do you plan on charging for it?

We’re still working on pricing, but we want to keep it affordable for pet owners.
What about battery life? It needs to last long enough so you’re not constantly recharging it.
Maybe integrate a reflective strip for nighttime visibility? That could enhance safety even more.
I think a feature that allows you to set up safe zones, where you get notified if your dog leaves that area, would be really helpful.
What about a built-in light or sound feature? It could help you find your dog in low-light conditions.
