Hi! My cat (4 years old, spayed female) has been acting a bit off today. Before I go ahead and call the vet and sound like a worried parent, I thought I’d check for some opinions here first.
Usually, she’s pretty vocal and mischievous, but today she’s been super quiet. It’s almost 6pm, and I haven’t heard a peep out of her all day. She’s mostly been sleeping. About an hour ago, she vomited up a thick, clear liquid three times within a few minutes. She normally throws up hairballs because of her long fur, but this time there wasn’t any hair, which seemed odd. This happened right before her usual feeding time, and now she’s not interested in eating at all. After throwing up again, she just went back to lying down.
I checked her gums, and they seemed a bit pale at first, but then looked normal again. I don’t have a thermometer, but she feels kind of warm, especially her ears. Cats are warmer than humans in general, though, so I’m not sure what’s normal.
I’m planning to call the vet in the morning, but until then, is there anything I should be watching out for tonight?
It sounds like your cat might be unwell. The quiet behavior, vomiting, and not eating are definitely concerning. Keep an eye on her and make sure she’s drinking water. If she vomits more or her condition worsens, consider taking her to an emergency vet.
@Rylan
She’s eaten a couple of bites now but still seems uninterested in the rest of her food. I’m debating whether to take her to a 24-hour clinic tonight or wait until morning.
She sounds really sick. The feverish symptoms and vomiting clear liquid are big red flags. If she’s not eating, she could deteriorate quickly, especially with her liver. I’d take her to the vet as soon as possible.
She seems to be perking up a bit now. I’ve been in contact with the vet, and they said there’s no urgent concern unless she vomits again or gets more lethargic. She’s eaten a bit more and is keeping it down, so I’ll be monitoring her and bringing her in for a check-up tomorrow.
Update: I spoke with a 24-hour vet, and they said I don’t need to rush her in since she ate a little and hasn’t vomited since. I’ll keep checking on her and will take her to her regular vet in the morning.
@Sidney
Another update: She’s been seen, and they’re not too concerned for now. I’ll take her to her regular vet tomorrow for a follow-up. Thanks, everyone!
