Is it unfair to my cat if I take her with me when I move

Hey there, I’m moving 12 hours away for college and for personal reasons. I live with my mom, three siblings, and two cats. One is a neutered male, and my cat is an unspayed female (I haven’t been able to get her spayed due to financial reasons). I’m moving in with my girlfriend, who has two big dogs. My cat has never been around dogs, and while they are friendly, I’m concerned about taking her away from her home and best friend. She loves my girlfriend, but she’s very close to my siblings and her cat friend. I want her to have the best life possible. What do you think?

It sounds like your cat might be better off staying where she is. Cats can get really stressed when moving to a new place, especially with unfamiliar animals around.

I agree. If your cat is already settled and happy, moving her could cause unnecessary stress. Plus, the dogs might be a lot for her to handle.

Have you considered how attached she is to the other pets and your family? It might be worth leaving her in a familiar environment.

You should definitely look into getting her spayed soon. It’s important for her health and to prevent any unwanted pregnancies, especially if you’re moving in with dogs.

If you take her, it might be a big adjustment for her. Maybe consider visiting your girlfriend first with your cat to see how she reacts to the dogs and the new environment.

You could also think about having someone at home care for her while you settle in. That way, she isn’t rushed into a new situation.

At the end of the day, only you know your cat best. If you feel she would do better at home, that might be the best choice.
