Is it okay to adopt a cat if I live in a studio?

Pet Lovers, I’m thinking about adopting a cat, but I live in a studio apartment that’s around 600 square feet. Is it mean to the cat to do this? I plan to adopt one from a shelter that’s used to being indoors, so I don’t think it would want to go outside. I have a big window and tall ceilings, plus I’m planning to get some suction cup hammocks and a couple of tall cat trees. I’ll also have scratching posts and toys for entertainment! I’d keep the litter box in a small utility closet where my washer and dryer are, and the food/water bowls in the kitchen. I grew up with cats and know how to take care of them, but I just feel bad about forcing a cat to live in a small space. I’ve also thought about adopting a bonded pair, but is that a worse idea than just one cat?

I think it’s totally fine to adopt a cat in a studio! Cats can adapt to smaller spaces if they have stuff to keep them entertained. Sounds like you’ve got it all planned out!

Yeah, I agree! As long as you provide stimulation and places to climb, a cat will be happy. Plus, indoor cats can live great lives!

I think adopting a bonded pair could be great too! They’d keep each other company, which is a plus in a smaller space.

Just make sure you have enough vertical space for them to explore. Cats love to climb! Sounds like you’re on the right track.

I think you’ll be fine with just one cat or a pair. Just ensure they have their own spots to relax and play!
