Back in July 2014, during the winter, my neighbor moved away and left her dogs out on the street. There were three of them: a mother and her two puppies. At first, I thought I’d just take them in temporarily, but as time passed, they became a permanent part of my family. They’ve been with me ever since. I was wondering if anyone here has a similar story to share? I’d love to hear about it!
I had a chihuahua that I got during my early adult years. One day, I was with my mom when we saw a chihuahua tied up in the cold after a snowstorm. We knocked on the door of the owners and offered them $30 to take the dog off their hands. They agreed, and that little guy spent the rest of his life warm and cozy indoors with lots of love and even some cuddly cats for company. I miss him so much, he was known around the neighborhood for being the friendliest chihuahua.
Thank you for saving those dogs. It really breaks my heart when people abandon their pets like that. It wouldn’t take much to just take them to a shelter or at least try to find someone who could take care of them.

I cry every time I hear about animals being dumped. If someone doesn’t want a pet, they shouldn’t get one in the first place. It’s heartbreaking for the animals.
One of my cats was under the same street lamp for two whole days. After driving past her a few times, I finally stopped to check on her. She was scared but came up to me and climbed onto my lap, refusing to let go. She even wrapped her paws around me like a hug. I brought her home and kept her separated from my other cats for a while, got her checked for a microchip, and looked for any missing cat ads, but no one claimed her. So, she stayed with me. Now she’s a happy, affectionate cat, and she’s gained weight since I found her—she’s over 15 pounds now but still insists on sitting on my lap all the time!
My cousin once adopted a puppy that was too much for her to handle, so she asked us to take him in temporarily. We did, while she looked for a new home for him. She eventually found one, but we had already fallen in love with him. His name was Sammy, and he was such a sweet dog.
It’s so sad that people do this to animals. I’m glad those dogs found a loving home with you.
Five years ago, we moved into our first apartment, which was on a really busy street. One night, while we were unloading stuff, a cat came up to us wanting attention. He just wouldn’t leave us alone, so we decided to bring him inside. We soon realized he was house-trained and thought he might have a family looking for him. The next day, I took him to the vet, and he wasn’t chipped. I also asked around the neighborhood, and someone told me they saw him being dumped from a car. He’s been with us ever since, living his best life indoors with lots of love and affection.
It’s so heartwarming that the puppies never had to be separated from their mom. You gave them a real chance to stay together and have a loving home. That’s amazing!
